Dr. Amanda Jones

Dr Jones

In 2008, the president of Seattle Children’s Research Institute tasked Dr. Jones with creating a mobile laboratory program that would bring hands-on science to students throughout Washington State. With her extensive science background and years of experience teaching students at various grade levels, Dr. Jones was well prepared to meet the challenges of this task. Many months of research later, the custom-built Science Adventure Lab set out on its first school visit in September 2009!

Dr. Jones attended the University of Calgary in Canada where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree and then a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Infectious Disease. She then went on to complete post-doctoral fellowship training in Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital. As a faculty member in the UW departments of Pediatrics, Pathobiology and Global Health, she taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses and mentored undergraduate students, graduate students and fellows who worked in her research laboratory.

When Dr. Jones is not at work, you will find her out in a field herding sheep with her four border collies, Danny, Shep, Bud, and Patch.
