Dr. Alex Chang

Dr. Chang joined the Science Education Department as a Senior Scientist in January 2017. During his first week at work, he helped the team set a Guinness World Record for most people conducting a DNA isolation experiment simultaneously. After that awesome start, he knew that Seattle Children's Research Institute was definitely the place to be!

Dr. Chang attended the University of California, Berkeley where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and his Ph.D. in Infectious Diseases and Immunity. Then he completed his post-doctoral training at Children's Hospital Los Angeles in the Division of Infectious Diseases. During his time in the laboratory, he studied how and why some types of bacteria cause disease and looked for ways to help those who got sick feel better. He also had the wonderful opportunity to teach and mentor many high school and college students in laboratory research.

Dr. Chang now helps lead classes onboard the Science Adventure Lab. He also helps coordinate the STEM High School Internship Program where students get to work one-on-one with actual research scientists in the laboratories during the summer. He is passionate about empowering students to discover and pursue their love of science and engineering.

When Dr. Chang is not at work, you will find him playing video games or listening to some science fiction audiobooks.
